Deej Fabyc<\/strong><\/p>\n

Deej Fabyc<\/strong> works with performance, installation, photography and video. Their work has for many years addressed the psychological dimensions of the personal and political experience of trauma. Current performance work is engaged with wicked embodied mapping of narratives of awkwardness, neurodiversity, ageing, loss, mental health and chronic illness. Fabyc has performed in museums, night clubs, and the street internationally since the 1980s.<\/p>\n

Recent performances include the Highlanes Gallery Drogheda with Bbeyond in 2022; Rerooting Tallaght at Rua Red Gallery Dublin in 2024; How Do I Look<\/em> with GraceGraceGrace at Guest Projects London; Theatres of Contagion Conference at Birkbeck London; and collaborations with Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens in Documenta, both in Athens and Kassel. In 2023 Fabyc undertook a residency and performance at 1927 Artspace, Athens. In 2025 they presented Secret Distortion<\/em> at the 13th UP-ON International Live Art Festival, Chengdu, China, and performed H(u)RT<\/em> with CERBERUS at M.Fest, Town Hall Theatre Studio, Galway. In 2026 they presented Passing Point<\/em>, a collaboration with Rachel Macmanus, as part of Fite Fuaite & Guest Artists \/ Still We Gather<\/em> at Galway Arts Centre, and performed at the Sofia Underground Festival.<\/p>\n

Deej has held a one-year residency bursary at Artsadmin, London, and has completed residencies at Dartington School of Art, Devon; the Cit\u00e9 Internationale des Arts, Paris; and Rules and Regs at A Space Gallery, Southampton. Significant performances include Details<\/em> at L\u2019Abracadabra Festival Internacional d\u2019Art Contemporani, Castell de la Bisbal, Spain, 2006; And She Watched<\/em>, Trace Installation Artspace, Cardiff, 2005 and Kingsgate Gallery, London, 2004; and Don\u2019t Call it Performance<\/em>, Centro de Arte Reina Sof\u00eda, Madrid and Centro P\u00e1rraga, Murcia, Spain, 2003.<\/p>\n

Fabyc has taught performance and fine art in the HE sector, the prison system and community settings for the past twenty years, and lectured at the School of Art, Architecture & Design, London Metropolitan University. They are Executive Director of Live Art Ireland \u2014 Eala\u00edn Bheo Centre for Art Research and Development at Milford House, Tipperary.<\/p>\n

Deej has a highly collaborative practice and has been a founding member of several collaborative projects, including the underground feminist art collective JILLPOSTERS in Melbourne in the 1980s; Elastic ARI Sydney 2000\u20132001; Elastic Residence, a London ARI 2004\u201311; and KISSS, an international curatorium of artists working with issues of surveillance. Since 2018 Deej has been Chair of FBI, a feminist network of artists. In 2024 Fabyc co-founded CERBERUS, a performance collective with Rachel Macmanus and Olivia Hassett, rooted in embodied improvisation and site-responsive practice. Positioning itself in the liminal space between this world and the netherworld, CERBERUS operates as a collective of three individuals bound together \u2014 representing loyalty, vigilance, and ferocity \u2014 making work that is durational, rigorously embodied, and engaged with questions of women\u2019s health, midlife, and the politics of the body.<\/p>\n

Fabyc is Australian, born in London, spending their early childhood in England and Ireland before travelling to Australia aboard the P&O Arcadia to begin secondary school. They completed their BFA at Southern Cross University and gained an MFA from the University of New South Wales Art and Design School. They are currently based in Ireland.<\/p>\n
